Facilities and Technology

The department teaches with a wider range of communication media technologies than any other department at Northern Illinois University.

For example, students in Journalism use desktop publishing and image editing software on a regular basis. Media students use nonlinear video editing software, as well as audio capture and editing software, WYSIWYG HTML editors, and other multimedia software. In Communication Studies and Organizational/Corporate Communication courses, students use spreadsheets and statistical analysis software. Rhetoricians make use of presentation software and research materials online. Students from any of our undergraduate emphases or majors often compile electronic portfolios.

Our facilities give students ready access to these hardware, software and media
